Panchayat Season 4 Web Series Review
When Kranti Devi (Sunita Rajwar) taunts Manju Devi (Neena Gupta) with “Election mein milte hain, sab ko naapenge,” in Phulera, I grabbed my popcorn, ready for the hilarious showdown in Panchayat Season 4. The stage was set for a riotous catfight!
Season 3 hinted at a political storm, and Season 4 delivers, diving into Phulera’s election drama. Pradhan Ji’s reign is under fire from Bhushan’s crew. Team A: Pradhan Ji (Raghubir Yadav), Manju Devi, Sachiv Ji (Jitendra Kumar), Prahlad Cha (Faisal Khan), Sahayak Sachiv (Chandan Roy), and Rinki (Saanvika). Team B: Bhushan (Durgesh Kumar), Kranti Devi, Binod (Ashok Pathak), and Vidhayak Ji (Pankaj Jha).
What unfolds when these rival gangs battle for Phulera’s throne? Who becomes the new Pradhan? Does Pradhan Ji hold his swagger, or is his glory fading? Most crucially—does Sachiv Ji crack his CAT exam? Season 4 promises all the answers with its signature wit and chaos.
Panchayat Season 4 falters with two core issues: Sachiv Ji’s excessive attachment to Phulera and the village’s apparent stagnation, showing no drive toward development. The political rivalry creates a gripping backdrop, but the lingering question from last season—who shot Pradhan Ji?—is resolved in a disappointingly casual manner. This is followed by Raghubir Yadav’s outburst, delivering a line meant to carry weight: “Politics hai ye politics, gudda gudiya ka khel nahi ki sab kuch achha hi achha hoga. Jhooth, fareb, makkari—yahi hai iska asli khel. Khel sakte ho to khelo, nahi to chhodo.” Yet, the dialogue falls flat, lacking the intended impact. This is emblematic of Season 4, which is riddled with such moments, making me question my memory of the show’s brilliant beginnings—particularly Manju Devi’s inspiring decision to delegate her Pradhan duties responsibly.
The season also regresses in its portrayal of gender dynamics. The three women—Manju Devi, her daughter, and Vikas’s pregnant wife—are reduced to passive figures, waving off the men as they leave for work. These jarring scenes mark a stark departure from the show’s earlier nuanced male-female interactions in Phulera.
Additionally, the season introduces superfluous characters. Nana Ji, who mostly predicts the show’s climax, feels unnecessary, while Billu, a young kid with brilliant potential, remains underdeveloped. Despite this, Bill Clinton Kumar’s presence is a highlight, deserving applause. Overall, Season 4 struggles to recapture the charm and depth that made Panchayat special.
